Newmarket Town Council rescinds support for two-tier change
Town councillors in Newmarket on Monday (Jan 29) voted to withdraw their support for Suffolk County Council's proposed county-wide introduction of two-tier schooling.
At a well-attended public meeting, where representatives of the county, schools and parents all spoke, the town council formally decided to rescind its previous decision in support of two-tier schooling.
A town council, of course, has no direct power to affect decisions at county level. Nevertheless, parents welcomed the move as clear evidence of a change of mood about Suffolk's ill-thought-out plans.
